My doctor was upfront with me by saying that this pill won't work wonders unless I change the way I think. Hes put me on a strict diet for 4 weeks. Meal replacment shakes and veggies. Then will ease my body back in to a healthy organic diet.

People keep telling me to treat myself because I'm working so hard. But "treating" myself got me to over 100kg!! No more excuses. Ive been making them all my life. If you want to change only you can make it happen.

Duromine assists with appetite so it eases the hunger pains so I can stick to just shakes. I still see food and crave it, and I miss socialising over a meal with friends. But motivation is getting me through.

I'm walking 5km a day. Trying to take it easy with exercise when on duromine as I tend to get jittery when I go too hard.

I'm down 4.5kg in my first week. :):);)

Maybe try the shakes? My doctor has me on Optisfast. The first 3 days is the hardest cause your tummy aches a bit. Probably because it's empty. But it eases off and now it's fine.

Now I'm just eager to smash out the month and change my life once and for all!

Good luck! Let me know how you get on!

@Colette: You are doing great, but scientists say that we still need to eat "chewable" food, not just shakes and water. I think you know that, just in case to worry you. When I was on extreme exercise routine, my personal trainer recommended to try protein shakes to support muscles. And I remember a stomachache the first couple of days, so I understand you.. I think you can try Optisfast but make sure you eat sothing small like apple or nuts or dried fruit with it or 10 minutes after (?). Listen to your body, it knows best what to do.

P.S. I feel you, all that food I used to eat before, I could still crave it for months after I started my diet plan... And those parties, meetings with my friends and family were the hardest ones. It requires a strong willpower and some support from loved ones. I wish you that! Everything is going to be OK, you will handle it and lose as much weight as you need! :):):) Hugs!

Thanks for your support Kate! You run a great forum! It's great to read people's experiences!

I eat a fair amount of veggies as well. Usually a small salad for lunch and dinner. And I snack on celery, cucumber and carrot sticks through the day as well. Didn't like the idea of an all liquid diet.... How would you do number 2's!! :p So I have incorporated heaps of fresh veggies to give my body extra fibre and goodness!

Thanks again for your help! Love coming on here! :)

Hey everyone, I've never joined a support forum before and I'm actually a bit excited about being here. Today is my second day on Duromine 15mg for the first time ever and I thought it would be a good idea to associate with people who are on a similar journey as mine and make friends in the process.

Hi Danica!
I'm soon to be a newbie in the same boat as you, starting tomorrow. I hope we can support each other :) I'm currently at about 110kgs :/ What about you?
How have you found it so far?
Best of luck!

Hi Bridget,

I'm happy to hear from you. I would love to offer my support and yours is most welcome. What strength are you on, the 15, 30 or 40mg? I am on the 15mg and I've lost 300g today which puts me at a total loss of 1.5kg in two days, pretty good. But I still get very hungry although I have no cravings, however, I feel like its not suppressing my appetite at all so I'm basically willing myself not to eat. I have a bit of a headache now n some dizziness sometimes especially when I get up from a seated or sleeping position. I have dry mouth but its not too bad. Otherwise it's been going ok I guess, although I don't think it gives me a lot of energy I am grateful that I don't get as tired as one would on a low calorie diet. By the way today I'm 59.9kg I wanna lose tge 9.9kg ultimately but for now I will be happy with a loss of 4.9kg to bring my weight to 55kg.

All the best with your journey to a more fabulous you...;)

Stay in touch

I'm on 30mg ☺
Have you been drinking lots of water? I think that might help with the dizziness , as well as making sure you do actually eat!
Also I've been reading a bit that it might take a few days to fully kick in, but it looks like you're doing great so far.
I'm suprised you're on duromine at all you dont seem to have much to lose! I would kill to only have 10kgs.
I'll update you tomorrow and see how you're going :)

Well I think that's my problem, I am having trouble drinking a lot of water though I do try to get in at least 1,5l and 2 if possible. I have a bladder problem n having urine in my bladder hurts  so I try to drink water with a lot of difficulty though. Well my doctor put me on duromine because I gained about 10kg in just 6 months on the pill because I just ate so much. Even though I exercise a lot the increased appetite is undoing everything I do at tge gym. So I took myself off the pill n told her about it so put me on a different kind and I adked her to prescribe something for the weight n she did. Honestly I too was surprised cos I wanted to ask for Duromine but was scared she would say no, so when she prescribed it without me even having to mention it I was thrilled. I wanted the 30 mg but I didn't wanna push my luck plus I was still worried about side effects.

In all honesty, I felt like I needed the boost from Duromine because I was so preoccupied with food that I was beginning to develop bullimic tendencies. I stopped when I got ulcers in my mouth from all the purging, hurt like crazy. Anyway that's a story for another day... Keep well:)

Hey all this is my first time on a forum and dnt kno much about them at all. I started taking the 40mg today and feel a lil spacey but other than that feel fine. My starting weight is 76kg and goal weight is 60-65kg :)

I'm sorry to hear about all that :( that sounds like a bad situation and I'm glad you've worked your way out of it with the help of your doctor :) and I totally understand the water thing haha!

Welcome kloblo! Best of luck to you and hopefully we can provide you will some support :)

Hey Kloblo, welcome. This is new to us as well so do feel free we're here all friends here.

Hahaha!!! thanx Bridget. I'm feeling a lot tired this morning so I decided to have breakfast feeling a bit better now. Lost another 200g yesterday the loss is slow but its encouraging... Let me know how you are feeling during the day, kinda excited about your first day.

That's great! Not really all that slow I don't think, on a regular diet you might lose that in a week!
Today has been good :) I was so nervous I'd feel like I was having a heart attack or be so jumpy and full or energy I wouldn't sleep for six days haha. But really I have just been my normal self feeling maybe a little odd sometimes, I can't really explain it. I am definitely not full of beans, in fact I'm a little tired but that could be because of my bad sleep last night, nothing to do with D, and also the occasional heart burn (or is it a placebo with my nerves?). Made sure I drink lots of water which is easy because I do have a little bit of a dry mouth, and also eat 3 'meals' which are very small but I don't want to eat nothing.
Overall I think our side effects are pretty similar!

How are you going? Still feeling dizzy?

Hahaha :) you got me laughing out loud here... I'm glad you are not having any serious side effects, I also get tired and odd kinda feeling from sometimes but it comes and goes so its no biggie. You and I are on the sane boat. I don't wanna eat but I know I should, the thing with me is that I've been known to binge eat so m scared to have food in front of me. This morning the only I had breakfast was because I was feeling tired and I knew it was due to being on a very low calorie diet.
You're right it is way better than on a normal diet. I feel fine now, no dizziness or headache, just a lil hungry lol...

Do you have a workout plan you are planning to follow? I go yo the gym but I think I'm gonna rest today.

Glad to keep you amused haha! I agree the side effects are not really a big deal, do you get any heart burn?
I really do think you should eat just a little bit a few times a day, you cant go the rest of your life afraid to eat!
Not really following a workout plan, I play netball every week and try to walk instead of the bus or car. Might try to go to the gym a few times a week, how often do you go?
I really want to weigh myself tomorrow but I shall resist the urge and try for a week, don't think I'll make it though!

Omg everytime I press post my phone switches off n I hv to retype everything  low battery hun will reply when I get home.

Hey Bridget,

Finally home. To answer your question yes I do get heartburn but not too often. I will try to eat because honestly not eating is just as much a health hazard as binge eating.
I try to go to the gym 5 days a week, resting Mondays and Fridays but m not consistent, sometimes I'll go more sometimes less depending on how I feel and how much work I have to cover when I get home. Weighing in weekly is actually a better idea tgan doing it everyday, it actually gets addictive and just drives you insane. I will start weighing in once a week also as soon as I finish my first week.

I'm having a pretty rough day today, I've got cravings for food and I haven't had these since I started. Think I will have a vegetable omelette for dinner I hope that will satisfy my cravings.

Hey Bridget,

It's past midnight and I slept early because I was exhausted from working out. Now I'm up with heart palpitations, freaking me out! I hope they will soon subside so I can sleep again. I am gonna skip taking my pill tomorrow, I hope this won't be a regular thing now otherwise I will have to go off the D.

How was your second day?

Hey,, Day 3 and I'm feeling a lil crazy. Hardly any sleep and with 4 kids im hoping this will subside. Also find my heart beating a lot faster than usual at times especially at night when im trying to sleep. Haven't found the motivation for exercise or eating atm even tho I fell wide awake all the time. I turn 30 in 3 months and that's when I wanna be my target weight so I'm hoping my exercise motivation kicks in soon. :)
